Things To Do In Marathon Key, FL
1. Snorkel At Sombrero Reef
First of all, you must now that when traveling to the Florida Keys I highly recommend that you have a boat. Whether you personally own a boat or if you choose to reserve a boat during your stay, it will make all of the difference in your experience.
Some of the best places to visit in the Florida keys are offshore, including Sombrero Reef.
Sombrero Reef is one of the most popular snorkeling destinations in the Florida Keys. It is about 4 miles offshore and you will find many other boats tied off near the reef.
2. Fishing
Many people travel to the Florida Keys specifically just for fishing.
Depending on the time of year, you may be in luck to catch a few fish during your trip. Or, if you want to do a charter fishing trip, I recommend booking with Bud N' Mary's Marina (which is located on Islamorada).

3. Sombrero Beach
One thing about the Florida Keys is that they are not necessarily known for their beaches. Like I said earlier, a lot of the islands' beauty lies offshore in the blue ocean waters.
However, there is one popular beach on Marathon Key called Sombrero beach. While, it is not your typical large white sand beach it is still a great opportunity for doing some swimming during a hot summer day.
4. Anchor At A Sandbar Offshore
One of the best parts about the Florida Keys are the numerous sandbars offshore that are perfect for anchoring at. Regardless of the key you are staying at, you will be able to find plenty of sandbars like this.
Simply pull your boat up and enjoy the large "pool" with your floaties!
5. Bass Pro Shops
Going to Bass Pro Shops may not automatically come to your mind when you think about vacationing in the Florida Keys, however I highly recommend stopping by this Bass Pro Shops on your way to Marathon Key.
It is located on Islamorada and is a fun place to stop even if you are not into fishing. Inside you will find Hemingway's boat Pilar (the sister ship) on display. Also, they have a restaurant where you can grab a bite to eat after taking a stroll around the marina!
Places To Eat
1. Sunset Grille
If you are looking to dine with a view, then Sunset Grille is a must.
It is located just off of the 7 mile bridge and has some of the most beautiful sunsets to watch as you enjoy dinner. The unique part about Sunset Grille is that they have a pool. So, if you are interested in taking a swim or having the kids play in the pool, then definitely bring swim suits!
2. Island Fish Company
Island Fish Company is another great spot for lunch or dinner. One of our favorite ways to commute to this restaurant is by boat.
For example, if you are planning on being out on the water all day, then docking your boat at a restaurant like Island Fish Company is super convenient. Plus, it is just super fun to be able to take the boat to lunch!

Kaiyo Grill & Sushi is actually located on Islamorada, but it is too good to not include. While, it is a bit of a drive from Marathon Key, it is totally worth it.
