If you're like me, you go to the beach all the time and you are the type of person who isn't afraid to get their hair wet. I love to dive into the waves, which means I end up with wet, salty hair at the end of every beach day.
You know how it goes. . . you get home and you have no choice but to wash your hair. This wouldn't be a problem if you only went to the beach every so often, but if you go almost everyday, then you end up having to wash your hair A LOT.
Washing your hair everyday = dry hair
After I learned about the damaging effects of salt and sun on your hair, in addition to having to wash it frequently, I knew I had to change my hair routine.
Therefore, I am giving you all of the best beach hair care tips and products that will help keep your hair healthy during the beach season.
This post is all about the best beach hair care tips and products.
Beach Hair Care
1. How To Prep Your Hair Before The Beach
When you go swimming in the ocean, your hair instantly absorbs the salt water. This is a problem because salt water dries out your hair and scalp. So, when you are frequently swimming in the ocean, your hair is getting more dehydrated each time.
When your hair is not moisturized, it can lead to breakage and split ends.
One of the best ways to help prevent the salt water from drying out your hair is to coat your hair with natural oils or a leave-in conditioner before swimming. When you coat your hair with a natural oil or a leave-in conditioner, your hair will absorb the oil/conditioner as opposed to the salt water. Two of the best oils to coat your hair with is jojoba oil or coconut oil.
The natural oils not only prevent your hair from absorbing only salt water, but they also work to hydrate your hair. If you prefer a leave-in conditioner, you can spray that in your hair instead and it will do the same job.

2. What To Do Right After Swimming In The Ocean
As soon as you are done swimming in the ocean, you should rinse your hair with fresh water. I recommend filling up a reusable water bottle with water from your home and packing that in your beach bag.
While the natural oils help prevent your hair from absorbing the saltwater, your hair will still have salt residue and sand throughout it, so you want to get that out as soon as you can. The sooner you rinse it out, the less likely your hair will get dried out.ย
So, I recommend rinsing your hair with fresh water, so that you can at least get most of the salt and sand out before you get home to shower.
3. How To Protect Your Hair From The Sun
When you spend many hours in the sun, the UV rays can damage the cuticle of your hair strands. Just like the salt water, the sun can dry out your hair leaving you with breakage, split ends, and frizzy hair.ย
There are a few ways you can help prevent sun damage to your hair.ย
First, you could choose to wear a sun hat that will protect your hair and scalp from the UV Rays.
Second, you could choose to use a hair SPF spray that will act as your UV protection (if you aren't a hat gal).

4. My Favorite Hair Masks
For beachy girls like us, our hair needs all of the extra moisture it can get. One of the best ways to bring the moisture back into your hair is by using a hair mask. I am obsessed with my Eva NYC hair mask product that I use once a week in the shower. It makes my hair feel super soft and hydrated.
If you are looking for an "in the shower" option, then I recommend the Eva NYC Therapy Session Hair Mask .
However, if you have the time, then I recommend using coconut oil as a hair mask. I do this about once every two months. I simply lather coconut oil all throughout my hair, then I put it up in a bun and let it sit for a couple of hours.
Coconut oil is very hydrating, but it is also more difficult to wash out of your hair. It usually takes me at least two shampoos to get it fully washed out, but the results are totally worth it.

5. Best Hair Clips and Hair Ties For A Beach Day
If you have long hair like me, then you know that you cannot go to the beach without something to pull your hair back with. If you don't pull your hair back, then you will constantly be fighting the wind all day.
My go to hair item is 100% a large claw clip. I recommend keeping one in your beach bag at all times. They are so easy to use and don't tug on your hair like regular hair ties do. Plus, they're super cute and you can match them to your swim suit.
My second choice is a silk scrunchie. Silk is gentle on the hair and does not damage it like a regular elastic. Personally, I love tying my hair back in a low bun with a cute silk scrunchie on those beach days that I'm not feeling the claw clip.
